Italy

COMING SOON:

6 days and 5 nights in Puglia: the region flooded with sea light.

The heel of the Italian boot, caught between the Adriatic and the Ionian seas, the region feels like an island, peripheral, a place apart, only tenuously European. Puglia is the end of something, and the beginning of something else. Down here on the edge of Europe, you feel other worlds. The white cubist houses could be North Africa and the labyrinthine towns, their lanes a bewildering maze of privacies, could be the backstreets of Istanbul.

And then you have the masserie, or fortified farmhouses, that stand alone in ancient olive groves, the real icons of Puglia.

Day 1

Arrival in Bari, check in at the hotel and welcome dinner.

Day 2: Bari - Trani - Castel del Monte - Alberobello

After breakfast we set off to Train a beautiful town overlooking the sea with a characteristic harbor and a swarming historical center made up of artisan shops.
On the seashore there is the Cathedral of San Nicola Pellegrino and, not far away, the Castello Svevo strategically placed to watch over and defend the town and the port. The particular location, the moored boats and the signal lights make the port and its bastions a unique destination for relaxing walks. Our day ends in Alberobello where we spend the night.

Day 3: Alberobello - Ostuni - Lecce

We stay the day with a tour of Alberobello. You may not have heard of this cute hidden fairytale village as it’s one of the lesser-explored areas among tourists making it so unique for its cone-shaped homes called Trullo. In the afternoon, we head to Ostuni, the “White City” located in the heart of Puglia. The joy of Ostuni is discovering its back-alleys and pretty buildings as you wander the streets and absorb the atmosphere. There's plenty to see, a lively buzz to enjoy and clean beaches of the coast are just a few minutes away.

Day 4: Lecce - Otranto - Lecce

Lecce, Salento’s focal point also called “the Florence of the South”. Lecce is the surprise of the Italian heel, a sophisticated gem among rugged landscapes of rock, olives and sea views.

Driving along the coast we arrive in Otranto. Otranto’s historic center still retains its life and charm. Sprawling out north of the town is the Baia dei Turchi, with endless stretches of sandy beaches and crystalline water that is consistently considered among the cleanest in the country.

Day 5: Lecce - Matera - Bari

After breakfast we head to a nearby region: Basilicata. In Matera, an old town carved into the rock composed of a network of caves inhabited since the Paleolithic era. We’ll spend a day roaming labyrinth-like narrow alleyways, interconnected loops and pretty little courtyards bursting with bright green cacti and disappearing through spectacular archways to encounter a world that looks not of this time.
